The Institute of Mathematics at the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences seeks applications for a

Junior Professorship (W1) in
“Mathematics: Explicit Methods in Number Theory and Algebra”

commencing as soon as possible. The fixed-term contract will initially be limited to a period of three years and may be extended by a further three years, subject to positive evaluation.

The professorship is part of the research group "Computer Algebra and Applications". The candidate's area of expertise should be algebraic number theory / geometry and their applications, such as the arithmetic of varieties, the theory of modular forms, algorithmic number theory, computer algebra, or cryptology. His or her research profile should in particular show potential for cooperation with members of this research group. Participation in future third-party funded projects is desired. The successful applicant is able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses offered by the institute as well as some courses in other departments in both German and English. As the Universities of Bremen and Oldenburg are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Preconditions for employment are specified in § 30 NHG. In cases where a candidate, before or after obtaining his or her doctorate, has worked as a research assistant, the total duration of the period of doctoral study plus the period worked as a research assistant shall not exceed six years.
