The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Mathematics, Physic and Informatics at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a

Full Professorship of Algebraic Geometry.

The professorship is a tenured W 3 position starting at October 1, 2018.

We search for an internationally recognized person with an excellent research track record in complex algebraic geometry. We expect experience in the acquisition of third party funding and the willingness to cooperate with the working group in geometry and algebra, in particular regarding possible joint funding applications.

The successful candidate will teach courses, mainly in algebra and geometry, for students in the various study programs in mathematics; this includes the education of future high school teachers. The candidate is expected to further contribute to the service courses of the Mathematics Department for other subjects.

Requirements for this position (in accordance with Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment will also be considered. The ability to teach in German and English is expected. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
