Postdoctoral positions in mathematics at Chalmers University of Technology

The Division of Mathematics at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg invites applications for several two-year postdoctoral positions starting August 1, 2016 or as agreed.

Outstanding applications from all mathematical research areas will be considered. Precedence will however be given to those who have a research profile compatible with existing research areas at the division. You are encouraged to make an initial contact with a potential mentor at the division before applying and to indicate this person in your application.

About the division and the department At the Division of Mathematics we conduct research at a high international level in areas such as algebraic geometry, number theory, algebra and representation theory, harmonic analysis and partial differential equations, computational mathematics and optimization, discrete mathematics and probability theory, complex analysis, functional analysis, kinetic theory, general relativity and biomathematics.

Together with the Division of Mathematical Statistics we form the academic part of the department of Mathematical Sciences, which is a joint department of Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg, and one of the largest in mathematics in the Nordic countries with a faculty of about 80. Major responsibilities You are expected to pursue a vigorous research program and collaborate with our researchers.

To enhance your chances in future applications for permanent positions we offer you the possibility that up to 20 % of your work may be spent on teaching. Our teaching languages are English and Swedish. As most of our teaching is in Swedish, teaching options will vary according to your language skills. We offer you to take part in Swedish courses. Most of our teaching is at the undergraduate level, but teaching at master's level as well as supervision of master's and Ph.D. students may also be part of your duties to some extent.

Position summary Full-­time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of two years (1+1).

Qualifications You should have a Ph.D degree in mathematics, completed by the time the appointment begins, but normally no longer than three years before the application deadline. Fluency in English is expected.
