Deadline: 15 feb 2025
One postdoctoral research position in the Sonata Bis grant Geometric structures behind tensors is offered at the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, University of Warsaw with Joachim Jelisiejew as the Principal Investigator.
Mathematically the project has two main lines of research:
1. Tensors, including secant and cactus varieties, border rank, VSP, minimal border rank, asymptotic complexity etc.
2. Moduli of zero-dimensional objects: Hilbert and Quot schemes, commuting matrices, generalizations and application to algebraic geometry and complexity theory.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct research in one or both lines above. Apart from PI, the Warsaw group working on similar topics currently includes Weronika Buczyńska, Jarosław Buczyński, Stefano Canino, Cosimo Flavi, Francesco Galuppi, Jakub Jagiełła, Weronika Obcowska, Piotr Oszer, and Yuze Luan. It forms a part of larger Warsaw algebraic geometry group that is lead by in particular by Piotr Achinger, Adrian Langer, Andrzej Weber, and Jarosław Wiśniewski.
The position comes with no teaching obligations and with a travel and equipment budget.
The following are required
1. A PhD in mathematics or equivalent obtained before the start of employment (in particular, the PhD can be obtained after the deadline of applications.)
2. Research experience in algebraic geometry or commutative algebra,
3. Good communication skills in English,
4. Research experience in topics related to the project: tensors, deformation theory, moduli spaces, enumerative geometry etc. will be an advantage.
