Dear all,

I would like to inform you that we have three tenure-track positions available at our university (UTFSM, Santiago, Chile), with a deadline of November 24, 2024.

One position is open to the general public, with a preference for candidates specializing in Algebraic Geometry, and the other two are designated for female researchers in various fields of mathematics. More details about the positions can be found at the following links (in Spanish):

1) Position SJ24-32 (with preference in Algebraic Geometry): see https://vra.usm.cl/ofertas-laborales/25641/ and submit the documentation in https://forms.gle/ZQUovHphJqq5Me8J9

2) Position SJ24-27 (for female researchers): see https://vra.usm.cl/ofertas-laborales/academica-matematica-cssj-2/ and submit the documentation in https://forms.gle/devvED9DrVA2ToXX7

3) Position SJ24-31 (for female researchers): see https://vra.usm.cl/ofertas-laborales/academica-matematica-cssj-3/ and submit the documentation in https://forms.gle/ZQUovHphJqq5Me8J9

I have also created a (non-official!) webpage that provides additional information and tips for geometers interested in applying:

https://pmontero.mat.utfsm.cl/concurso_santiago_2025_eng.html

The typical teaching workload for these positions is 112 hours per year, and we are looking for candidates (ideally) with at least basic proficiency in spoken Spanish.

The expected net salary for assistant professors (adjusted based on academic evaluation) typically ranges between €35,000 and €45,000 per year, depending on the current exchange rate. Additionally, the university offers free daily lunch, provides startup funding to support the candidate’s research during the first year of the tenure track (while applying for grants from the Ministry of Science), and a reduced teaching load of 75 hours total for the first year.

Additionally, many funding projects in Chile provide extra salary benefits for researchers, and UTFSM offers incentives for excellence in both research and teaching. If you have any questions about UTFSM, practical details regarding the positions, the city of Santiago, or the application process, please feel free to contact me directly (pedro.montero@usm.cl) or Roberto Villaflor (roberto.villaflor@usm.cl).

Kind regards, Pedro Montero
