10 PhD positions and 1 postdoc position in Goettingen

At the Mathematical Institute of Universitaet Goettingen, we will start this fall a new Research Training Group "Fourier Analysis and Spectral Theory", which include as PIs also topologists and geometers. Indeed, Thomas Schick is the speaker.

Starting Oct 1, 2019 (or later upon mutual agreement), within this RTG we advertise 10 PhD positions and one Postdoc position. The application deadline for both positions is soon, June 26, 2019.

The PhD positions come with 75% of the regular working hours (currently 29,85 hours per week). The contract duration is 3 years. The salary will be according to pay grade 13 TV-L.

Applicants' profile
- Master degree in mathematics or equivalent
- Research focus with an analytical profile in one of the areas number theory, geometry, non-commutative geometry, topology, analysis of partial differential equations, mathematical physics
- Language proficiency in English or German

The successfull applicants work within the research program of the Research Training Group. As members of the Research Training Group they benefit from its qualification program, including for advanced and tailor-made courses on the topics of the Research Training Group. An intensive visitor's program, frequent workshops and PhD schools will contribute to a vibrant scientific environment.

The postdoc position is for a fixed term of 2 years, with a salary according to pay scale level E13 TV-L.

Applicants' profile
- Master Degree and PhD/doctoral degree in mathematics or physics
- Research focus with an analytical profile in one of the areas number theory, geometry, non-commutative geometry, topology, analysis of partial differential equations, mathematical physics
- Language proficiency in English or German
- Teaching experience is desirable
- Scientific publication experience is desirable
- We expect willingness to cooperate in joint scientific projects

This post is designed to promote early career researchers. The successful applicant works within the research program of the Research Training Group. They occupy a relay position which requires intense communication with the PhD students and the professors of the Research Training Group, and they contribute in teaching and organization to the success of the Research Training Group. An intensive visitor's program, frequent workshops and PhD schools will contribute to a vibrant scientific environment.
