Differential Geometry 2026: A Tribute to Francesco Mercuri

created by placini on 07 Nov 2025

7 jul 2026 - 10 jul 2026

Cagliari, Sardinia

The conference is dedicated to the memory of Francesco Mercuri, a distinguished Italian mathematician and Full Professor at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, where he spent most of his academic career, making decisive contributions to the development of mathematics in that country.

The conference aims to celebrate Mercuri’s scientific legacy by bringing together colleagues, collaborators, and former students who shared research paths with him. Beyond commemorating his life and work, the event will also serve as an opportunity to strengthen scientific cooperation between Italy and Brazil, which has been consolidated over the past decades thanks to the connections between the two university systems, supported by bilateral agreements and joint research projects.

It will also provide a platform to promote scientific dialogue and intergenerational exchange, in full continuity with the spirit of openness and dedication that always characterized his academic commitment. The scientific program will feature lectures by invited speakers, focusing on some of the most relevant and current research topics in Differential Geometry. A poster session will also be open to allow young researchers to present their work.

Organizers: Leonardo Biliotti, Stefano Montaldo, Irene Onnis, Paola Piu.

Speakers: Renato Bettiol, Martha Dussan, Graziano Gentili, Claudio Gorodski, Lino Grama, Luquésio Jorge, Luciano Mari, Barbara Nelli, Maria Helena Noronha, Keti Tenenblat, Ruy Tojeiro.
