Dear all,

We are writing to advertise the workshop "Algebra and Geometry from Africa", which will take place over two weeks at ICMS in Edinburgh, UK, from 5-16 May 2025.

The first week of the workshop will consist of broader introductory talks and exercises in algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. In the second week participants will focus in smaller groups on research topics. Possible topics include birational geometry, K-stability, toric degenerations, and special classes of modules in commutative algebra.

We expect the majority of participants to hold a PhD in mathematics and be working in Africa, though exceptions may be made for well-prepared finishing PhD students, or those working outside Africa with tight ties to the continent. Full funding is available for mathematicians based in Africa, and partial funding may be available for others.

To apply fill in the application form https://forms.gle/ndoVgSn3pxZX9GMM6 by 15 October 2024.

Please send this email to anyone else that you think might be interested in the workshop.

For questions, contact us at agafricaicms2025(AT)gmail.com.

Best,

Praise Adeyemo (Ibadan), Liana Heuberger (Marseille), Diane Maclagan (Warwick), Gregory Sankaran (Bath), David Ssevviiri (Makerere)
